No preliminary sketches are required.  The
Chinese paintbrush is used to apply ink and
watercolors onto the rice paper creating the
final form.
Free Style is based on simplicity, by capturing the
essence of a scene , using minimal brushstrokes to
complete a painting.
Free Style Chinese painting is a relatively new, unique concept of
Chinese painting.  This new technique of Freestyle, giving life to the
flora and fauna on the rice paper, you must observe the artist at work.
Simplicity
No draft required
In free style, time is important as a moment too long with the paintbrush will cause the ink to spread too much on the thin rice paper.  Speed control is therefore an important technique to master while adjusting the smoothess as well as the sharpness of the stroke.
Speed control
In Ming's free style, the background is very often left unpainted.  The unpainted portions or negative spaces are as important in terms of composition as the painted ones.  The balance of layout of the space has a major impact on the final work.
Negative spaces
Ming's painting has different themes for the picture.  The picture is a reflection of her artistic style.  The act of bringing to life the harmony, versatility, vividness and movements of her subjects are the key symbols of her free style approach.
